more fun in the mud

I don't remember coursing in such nasty weather as I've been doing lately. . .LOL. . weather in MD has been hit or miss, at least it's not gotten hot as fast as it did last year, still perfect weather for Zoi, even if it's miserable weather for us humans.

Saturday was horrid, with high winds, horridly cold rain. Borrowed the van which was like driving a sail boat with the way it handled the wind. Clouds were ripped across the angry grey sky, trees whipping around in the wind, thankfully not a lot of line problems. Put points on my friend's girl and Mr Wizard, and got a QC on a Mir granddaughter, and was never so happy as when we finally got on the road and started heading home. Lots of flooding, with a local dog show being cancelled due to it and the photos I saw of that were horrendous, show hall beyond flooded!

Parking was fun due to the field being soaked to the gills. . I left before a lot of people, so not sure if anyone got stuck LOL

Sunday started out with high winds and an overcast sky, but quickly changed to cleared skies and pretty nice weather.

Ziva proved she enjoyed the mud by putting on four spectacular runs. . not because I ran her for field, but becuase I handed her off to someone and in her thrashing, she managed to get loose while the 2nd course of FC's were running. Thankfully she was wearing the missing blanket(blue), and wasn't trailing her leash. As I walked off the field with her and Wizard, was told it was one of the best courses people had seen LOL. . Didn't make up for the fact I'd gone 11 years without a dog getting loose LOL After the BOB runoff, she was still raring to go, but I wasn't going to try her a 5th time LOL

After being attacked, she has taken to taking the bunny out to the judge where she feels safe to tear it apart. . I'm not sure if I'm happy about that or not LOL She doesn't run away when I go out to get her, she just doesn't want to be near the other dogs when she shreds her bunny ..turkey child. Many who knew her father told me they could tell she was sired by Grins LOL. Even after four runs, she was still raring to go, but I didn't tempt fate with having her run across the mudpits again. She did get a nice BOB win: 4 point major, with Wizard bringing home the 3 point major from the FC stake.

Unfortunately both my cert dogs came up with a 'hitch to their giddy up', but Charles offered his handsome Serrano who ran well with Miss Jenny, who now has her QC, taking a nose dive in a pool of water, and still getting up to tear across the field and kill her bunny

I sure did not enjoy putting those disgusting dogs in my car. . LOL.

the dogs were flatzois, jenny curled up in the front seat, head draped across my knee, Ziva in the backseat with her head draped over my arm .. not the most comfortable way to drive.

Looking at the next coursing event. . well, that's the II, am toying with the idea of going to some NOTRA, but also looking at AKC events, I have 4 Opens now, so strange to finally break that dry spell.

Unfortunately, Grins is probably retired from competition.. off and on neck problems just bouncing around the yard. . .he doesn't realise at 8.5, he should NOT stop on the top of his head. He'll get to cert dogs now and then and run at our practices, but he more than likely is never going to enter the coursing field again. . maybe NOTRA wont' be as hard on him .. we shall see.

This weekend is our supported entry. Ordered a new knee brace. First show that I've shown in since the knee went CRACK!!! last fall(9 months ago) hopefuly I'll be able to do this without collapsing. Brand new outfit(former outfit doesn't fit anymore!). Dei's in veterans, as I'm very proud of my 10.5 yr old, and Ms Nacht in 12-18, it hopefully will be fun!

Uncle!

UNCLE!!!

I feel like we've been transported to the desert, the ground is so dry the babies have ran paws sore, and when the dogs play in the early AM(only time it's really cool to play), the dust is enough to choke a horse.

It is HORRID!!!

And keeping dogs cool has been a nightmare. No central air inside, it's cooler outside than inside some days. Unfortunately, Grins forgot to get the memo that he is not a young whipper snapper and can not do stupid crap like fence race his son when it's warm, so he's been delegated to a crate in the house to keep him calm, a fan helps keep him cool.

The rest of the dogs each have huge wading pools. Really, they're giant horse troughs, and it's interesting to see how each dog interacts with them. Eros & Reba will sprawl out in them, as will the big hairy beast Bagheera, where all you can see is their little eyes over the rim. Gibbs & Ziva will stand in it and splash themselves. In fact, they are no longer flashy irish marked dogs, they are self brown LOL. I'm surprised Tipperary hasn't turned green as much as she hangs around the pool.

Giant craters are dug to help keep them cool. If it keeps up, we may have to put them int he basement to keep them cool . .it's been awful.

What's scary is the performance events that go on. There was a three day coursing trial an hour from here, with temperatures of over 100, I can't understand why people go, or why trials are held in July for that very reason. LGRA & NOTRA meets have been cancelled because of the high temps, but it seems that coursing WILL GO ON. My dogs are outdoor dogs, but I would never course them in temps like this. .the one time I did(not realising how hot it was) cost me $3000 in ER vet bills. . I had hoped to go Saturday, when it was supposed to be low 80s, but once the week progressed, I opted to stay home when the temps ended up being high 80s. .I so wanted to get Ziva's QC and work on Reba's FCH, but cant' afford an ER vet bill. . .nope

Makes training dogs hard, Bella's first show is this weekend, and haven't been able to work with her much, because of the heat, missed out on Rally class this week, cuz of the heat. .blech. Thankfully, the weather is breaking for the shows this weekend, with a frigid 79 expected for Saturday LOL

What I have been doing, is working with Tipperary. . Tipp had gotten into this "You can't catch me" BS at racing to the poitn I've had to pull her. She's a very sweet, decently fast, silly dog, but like her great uncle Eros, when the bunny stops, she has no interest in it. Where he'll come to me or someone for petting, she takes for the hills, galloping gleefully away from me for 5-10mins before she goes oops, guess I should come back. My asthma and nerves can't take her taking this. She's almost half way towards her title, I'd hate to see her never reach it. . unfortunately, this habit has gotten worse over the last few months. She wont' even come when called in the yard.

So, the magic meatballs have been introduced to Tipperary, and it took her a few days, but thankfully she also has great uncle Eros' appetite, and she realised she REALLY likes these treats, and if she comes to me, she GETS these treats. .. we'll slowly wean off the treats to ear rubs (since I don't like giving treats right after a run) She's coming pretty reliably in the dog yard, and Saturday after the show, we'll go to the front field(think that's 8 acres completely fenced) and see how she recalls there. I'm hoping to have her fixed from this issue before the meets this fall.

Otherwise, we're jsut workign to stay cool .. and praying for rain, please rain!!!

Yeah for the end of june

The heat has finally broken here in MD, at least temporarily. . I so enjoyed watching the Borzoi riproar around this morning, pouncing, trouncing, leaping, flying, bowing, playing, Reba & Gossip being silly together, old Lady Dei joining in on the fun, Gibbs & Ziva playing catch me if you can, the dirt stirring in the still morning air.

It has been so horrid, we've done as little as possible, racing was cancelled last weekend, it was 97 here on Monday, it's supposed to be almost 20 degrees cooler today. And it's been this way most of the month, ugh.

Did manage to finish First's & Reba's GRC, all the girls are workign their way out of their post season slump. :P

Ziva joined the ranks of the racing crowd this month. . .she's made me very proud, from being a dog only mom could catch or box(I'd box, then she'd race back down the track to me, first day she raced,s he probably ran 1000 yds!), to a dog anyone can box/catch. I don't usually race first, but used it this time to build her confidence. She is very soft like her mom, and so will be out selectively as long as I know the dogs who are running run COMPLETELY clean, meaning no crap after the finish line either!, which I have seen a lot of recently when running with others' dogs.

I won't put up with that crap, and in fact pulled a bitch at the last race meet who was doing that. We're taking care of her for a friend, and another friend is interested in a running dog. This bitch has a wav, ahs ran clean before, but for some reason this time, felt the need to roar at Reba as she came across the line. Thankfully Reba has become oblivious to that crap, but that doesn't mean a thing to me. I do not like it.

Some enjoyable time this month, was spent in the company of an old friend and making a wonderful new friend. Fourteen years ago, I met one of my favorite people in Borzoi: Nancy Hopkins. She came up to me at the San Antonio Cluster, very complimentary of my girl, one of the few people who was. She could teach a lot to people who can't see a dog beyond the breeder/pedigree. . .

She came 'back' into my life after I moved to NY, when I bought the littermate to her beautiful Blue Brindle Pele Daughter. My boy didn't turn out, but taught me a lot, as has my friendship with Nancy.

Nancy's friend (and also a friend of Bonnie's) came up to purchase one of the great grandson's of my Kyra out of a girl bred by Nancy. Nancy took a risk and a lot of flack for breeding to a 'half shefaro' boy. . why a risk? Because people were all lined up to buy a puppy from the 'famous' flyte until they found out who she bred her to. . .Mir's a very nice boy, accomplished, but again, refer to the paragraph to people who can't see a dog beyond the breeder/pedigree. . some people are so blind. She got a really nice litter out of Mir & Flyte, and I know she's proud of them all.

Bonnie's girl First is a pretty, very Kristull looking thing. . .and boy was she happy to see her 'grandma' when Nancy showed up.

When she heard I was going racing last weekend, Nancy brought up First's sister HayLuz to see how she stacked against both her sister & Gossip. And even tho we were up and on the road at five to go racing, Nancy was a great sport about it and heavensent, as we needed the extra hands and it helped in walking dogs out,IMMENSELY.

It was a blast, even if it did get warm and she got to see dogs run she'd wanted to see run(Gossip, First, Tipperary, Grins) and she helped me in training Ziva, who is now half way towards her title and getting better each and everytime. . .
Unfortunately, HayLuz decided to be grumpy, coming across the line roaring at poor Reba, and Nancy did the right thing and pulled her. .. wish other people who have dogs who did this would pull them, as it is intimidating to new dogs and can ruin a soft dog. . .Nancy was good nature about it, Hay Luz was about 4 wks post season, so it could've very well been PMS.

She got to see I wasn't joking on how hard it was to pull Grins off LOL. .

Sunday, even tho she didn't have a dog to run, she was up and with me to the field (We love you Nancy!).We got 17 races done in 3 hrs Sunday, and the track came down fast. And by the end of the day, Ziva was hard to pull off the bunny, so I was very happy over all!

The dogs all got in the van and became carpets. . .it was amazing to see LOL. Not a grumble.

If weather stays as mild as it's supposed to be for Saturday, Ziva will attempt her ASFA Cert. My luck, she'll get it and then come into season LOL. That's exactly what her sister did with her LGRA cert run. .

Snow snow go away!

OMG. . .I feel like I was dropped back into CNY.

Poor Grins up to his chest in snow
this has been the worst storm since I think the news said 1920 for Baltimore MD. In the deepest spot, it was over 3 ft. . the fences are 12 inches shorter than they should be, we just got plowed last night. .thankfully I parked at the bottom of the 300+ ft driveway Friday just before it hit. . .The Prius & Windstar disappeared under the snow. . .the kennels were blocked by snow. . I had to go stomp the snow down in order for the boarders to go out to piddle. . .
Saturday was so much fun. Bonnie's tenant came down, wearing plastic garbage bags over her feet. . .we don't get weather like this, so we don't have clothes for snow up to your groin. . .using a leash as a suspender, the idea worked real well, unless you fell, it kept you from getting wet and thsu chilled. . granted, Grins did look at the bags with a wild gleam in his little eyeballs. . .even when my boots got wet, my feet were cold, but not soaked.

Gossip taking snowballs out of her tootsies

Bagheera was used as a snow plow, he's a massive big boy, and he raced around the old dog yard, pounding down the snow, making it easier for us to carry water to the two yards. The younger dogs were having a blast, tho I know they were sore after plowing thru snow that came beyond their chests on the smaller dogs. . Gossip over did it and was very sore that night. They tromped their 3 ft of snow down to 12 inches around the fence line and the gate, which made it easier, just clear out the gates, slip in and feed them.

Gorgeous Monday Morning front field shot

Then stomped down the 300+ ft of driveway to my car, and started shoveling that out, sure I wouldnt' be able to get it completely shoveled, but at least I felt like I was attempting it. . I had no idea if work would be on for Monday, and would rather not take a vacation day if I have to LOL. I took Gossip, thinking she'd break the snow for me making it easier for me, but nooooo not my special little spotted bitch. . she allowed her mommy to do it, tromping on my feet. .brat. . put her in the car and started shoveling. . .when suddenly a young gentleman in a frontloader came off the dairy farm across the street and started digging me out, he told me to stop shoveling and he finished it. . thank the heavens for wonderful neighbours.

Photo above is the dog yard Saturday morning

Went to work, and half the office wasn't there, but we were open, even with no customer service LOL Headed home, to find that the plow guy hadn't shown up yet. . .walking that hill in snow is like using a stairmaster, OTOH, haven't slept as well as I have the last two days in a long time LOL Plow showed up at 9ish. . .just in time for me to collapse into bed. . .
Unfortunately, poor Grins has an ulceration on an eye from running into brush, so he can't go outside if it's sunny, that's been A LOT of fun. . .(NOT) Just as much fun as tryign to sit on him to put his eye ointment in
OMG. . I am soo sick of it, and we've got another one heading straight for us tonite. Get up this morning, we're expecting 14-22 inches more, with the possiblity of a new storm hitting us on Monday. UNCLE!!!!!!!

thunderstorms

Thunderstorms

They are awe inspiring

They are works of nature, as they roll in, or slowly creep in, opening up above you, or tearing in like a stampede

And they are dangerous as well as destructive.

I haven't liked them since 1995, when a large number of twisters came in on the fringe of a bad thunderstorm. I was caught in it coming home, I remember pulling off to the side of the road, getting into the middle of the van, and pulling a blanket over my head. The hail did thousands of dollars worth of damage to my Mustang (miss that car), as well as my house, and I was at the beginning of the trail. Lost electricity for 2-3 days, every window on the front of the house, the roof. Was a nightmare

We had one of those big storms tear in last Sunday night. . we'd just given up on trying to get a breeding Bonnie wanted, and were headed back down the hill when the rain started, then the hail started. I’ve seen bigger, but starburst sized hail hitting you still hurts. We watched the torrential downpour from the safety of the kitchen, the electricity flickering on and off. A couple struck close and we didn't realize how close until the horse barn down the road went up in flames. They were still fighting that fight when I went to bed. It kept reigniting itself; I counted at least 6 big fire trucks there, got photos of the smoke, which was thick, so thick that when I walked out of the house Monday morning I couldn't breathe. It looked like fog until you smelt it.

Wires were down, live ones to the East, dead ones and a tree to the west, a tree that took out the dairy farmers fence, thankfully, his dairy cattle weren't in that pasture. Not the worst storm I've seen, but considering how short the storm was, pretty damn destructive.

We ran up to Safeway, hoping to get there and back to the house before BGE(Electric company) got there and closed the road down, picked up dry ice and something to eat, as we hadn't even eaten dinner yet. Dinner was a beautiful turkey breast which was half cooked in the oven when it happened. Oh joy. It got quickly tossed into the freezer

Interestingly, Touchet, who's been afraid of storms since the tree fell in the big back yard, didn't freak out in the puppy yard. Usually when the weather gets nasty, she and the bitty pups come in, but it came so fast we didn't get a chance to bring any of them in. Thankfully with the covered porch, I was able to keep an eye on them all, and they were all safely ensconced in their dog houses in their respective yards. Maybe she feels safer in the big wooden dog house vs. the plastic houses.

So, dinner by candle . . .err, flashlight, with two pathetic house dogs hoping we'd drop something on the floor. Thank goodness the stove is gas, so we were able to fix sides to go with the rotisserie chicken we picked up. Then an early bed time, only to wake up to the smoke so thick it wasn't funny. The tree was cut back so you could at least safely drive by it, didn’t' go the other way, out of the way to go to work. Figured work had AC, working toilet, and fresh air, safer for me with my asthma with that last one. THankfully electric was back up when I got home

From our front yard. You could hear the heavy machinery as they tried to push the walls down in order to try and contain the fire. We don't think anything but hay/straw was lost, but it explains why it went up so darn fast.
That's not fog, that's smoke still. The black square is about where the farm is.

Again, next morning,
Where the weird box is, that's not clouds, that's smoke the night before
The japanese tree Bonnie has, the leaves are absolutely huge, and pretty hard hit by the hail.

The afternoon after, it's amazing they didn't lose the two buildings shown here, tho I think they did lose two others.

The tree down to the west of us.

Winds

We had some nasty weather earlier this week. . in fact, as I watched the huge tree outside my 5th floor office window, all I could think of was the whomping willow (http://www.hp-lexicon.org/hogwarts/castle/willow.html) of Harry Potter fame, especially as it continously whomped the giant windows next to my desk causing me to jump.

Traveled home, swirving around tree branches in the road, headed up the long windy road to the house, swirving to miss bigger tree branches, and got told a tree did fall. .took pics, as it's amazing nobody was hurt. The two dogs that were in this run were fine.
You can see the end of the tree on the opposite side. .this run is 20 ft wide. . .if you look closely, you can see how far the fence is pulled down
This is all that's holdint this good 10+ ft of tree off the ground. . I am amazed that the pole isn't bent much more than in is

The original home of that branch. . .thankfully we didn't lose any electricty. . .storms can get fierce here in MD, and we're surrounded by lots of old trees. . .

weather

the weather outside is frightful. . .

nah, just cold, dreary, and may be dropping a couple of inches of snow on us today, to turn to freezing rain tonight, drive to work should be FRIGHTFUL. . if I can get down the hill . .who knows, maybe Baltimore may close down again tomorrow :)
The Golden Child Surya with his lamb in the last snow fall
I love photos of snow and ice. . dont' know why, always have

Isn't it so pretty? :)

Strangeness of fall

WTF? I just picked yet another bunch of tomatos off my plants. .it's almost the middle of NOVEMBER, and they're still popping off tomatos. . unfortunately the big tomatos were a failure, but the cherry and grape ones were a HUGE success, so I will just plant those next year. . and not so many of them either.

It's warm out, but overcast. . .some strange ass weather.

A quiet day at home. .was going to go coursing, but with Reba having come up lame last week and feeling under the weather, decided nah. . just stay home, relax, and prepare to drive next week as well as figure out who's going.

Got a note that First picked up 1/4 point last week. Not much in the scheme of things, but considering who she's running against, they'll have to finish before she can start getting more points. So making my list of who's going next week: Gossip, Wizard, Focus probably and ? . . .not sure. .LVCC & Cobra look like they're goign to be huge entries if every shows up. . .including at least one dog from the Midwest :) Can't wait

Found a local rally show, and sending in my entry now for Ms Gossip, who's been working on 'fixing' what she's 'poor at'. .mainly her sits need to be straighter. Considering this show is only like 20 mins away, just couldn't resist. And started working with Dei again. . .she's not as much fun as Gossip, as she doesn't enjoy working, but she does know how to do everything except the return to heel, so we'll work on it.

Got information on another training place in town, this place holds agility & rally funmatches once a month, so you know what I'll be doing this winter :) Getting Gossip ready for the agility ring next year :)

Was neat to see so many Mir(KyraX Blaze) descendents do so well at the LGRA/NOTRA nationals. . wishing I could afford to fly Gossip out to Colorado to run against them. yeah, money grows on trees, NOT!!!

The weekend

Wrote this last night, and forgot to post

Brrr, where did fall go? WE keep bouncing between summer (warm and sunny) and winter(cold & rainy). Makes for miserable people, that’s for sure.

Looking to be a nice weekend, small meet, but nice entry. Trying to get Jim to come down with HIS dawg(Tipp), but he finds straights boring. At least with a small meet, I can get in lots of box breaking, Bagheera & First are going, FTE’s, and taking Eros to work box with him. . .maybe I can get him where he’ll stop fighting the box. Would be nice. . getting him into shape to hit the coursing field some this winter. And working with Grins on rally stuff. . he’s such a DORK!!!!!!

Watching Snoopy & Jammin fight it out for #1 is so exciting, and the sportsmanship between the two owners is wonderful . . They cheer each other on, may the best dog win. . .it’s going to come down to the finish line this year with those two. . .both nice dogs, so have a hard time cheering one on over the other. Would love to see a ‘match’ race with Gossip & Jammin, just to see how much he beat her by. . .problem with her is the head games she likes to play LOL. I’ll only go as fast as I have to go, and not an iota more. .drives Karen & Michelle nuts when they’re running the lure. . .OTOH, means she’s a smart dog. Can’t wait to see how Bagheera & First rate next to her, and next time it’ll be Focus & Carrot and maybe Tip, she can be such a pita to catch, so not sure I want to take her.

Unfortunately the dog I had wanted to breed Gossip to is out. . .won’t go into it here, but he’s no longer with us. Damn. . .so back to the drawing board. Thankfully got a long list of Boys I like, just have to widdle ‘em down with Marie.

Fall plans

I made Pandora's reservations at the kitty hotel(Vet who boards). With her thyroid meds, it's easier on friends if she goes to the vet's for xmas vs risking her not getting her pills if she decides to hide and pisses off my friends. .so it's eaiser on friends and easier on my friendship with said friends LOL She'll be pissed, but there's a reason she's known as the pissy prissy princess.

Finalizing plans for the fall, trying to figure out if I can head south or west for some racing. . hoping Mr Sammy can come up and visit for some racing in November. Easier for her to travel and her car is much more reliable than the Dinosaur I own(not that I'm complaining with gas the way it is LOL that little dingy white car gets good mileage)

Lining shows up, coursing up, racing up. . .so glad fall is finally here, hard to believe little over a week ago I was complaining about the heat, now we're getting low 50's at night, freeze your butt off going to the movies. .yack!! And today, it's pouring freezing rain. .lovely

Plans, Agility & Ike

Wings has a hot date. . .dam to be's sister produced well when bred to a related boy, so I'm looking forward to it. Dam's not of a pedigree I'm too particularly thrilled with, but otoh, ti's not absolutely horrid either. . just worried I'm going to get HUGE. . since I get a stud fee puppy. Robin'll grow them out, which works out for both of us. . .so here's hoping for a decent sized, nice healthy litter and a couple of keen boys for Robin & me.

On that note, I got the nod for the litter of my dreams for Gossip. I am so tickled. It's an outcross for Gossip, but it's a lovely dog, and even tho I'm not keen on part of his pedigree, the rest is yummy. . .I am SOOO EXCITED LOL.

After Gossip's loss of brains last week at our first Agility class, I took a different approach.

1) I stopped and picked up two double cheeseburgers from McD's2) I let Gossip run the pants off of two of her boy friends. She ran so much, I thought she might be useless for agility class. Popped her into the car, and headed off to the agility class.

Tonite was bigger because they had to combine the intermediate and beginners class due to scheduling conflicts. . .there were a total of 8 dogs. Again, we were the oddball breed: two Shep Xs, two toy dogs, one German Shorthaired pointer, one Standard poodle, one weimeraner, and us. Gossip did me proud. . .she did not act up, she behaves, she paid attention to the hand with the hamburger and not the two white fluffy dogs that were barking and zooming. . not at all like last week with the cockerspaniel. . .the GSP was with us last week and she commented on how well behaved Gossip was this week. .i was so tickled. AND she did the weave, it's at the V shape right now, but she did it without me having ot lure her thru, so I was VERY happy

She was soooooo on the hand with the hambuger, she did not see the shep X come out of the tunnel and come barreling at her. I'd been watching this dog all night, as she kept staring at Gossip, and baring her teeth. She wasn't making any noise, and having a Grinnie dog, I was wondering if that's what she was doing. This dog's owner had no control over her, no choke chain, a flimsy lead, the dog was clearly in charge. She went thru the tunnel and came racing towards Gossip, again, baring teeth, I stepped between, treated Gossip and snarled at the dog. .and then made sure the rest of the class that at least half the class was between us and that dog. The GSP owner even mentioned how intent that dog was on Gossip. If it happens again next week, I'm going to stay and talk to the teachers, as this is NOT the learning environment I want. I've BTDT with a dog who had it out for mine, and i was too stressed about that other dog to do my own dog justice.

So, yes, the fairies returned the GOOD Gossip to me LOL

Watching the Ike information just boggles my mind. . why when a hurricane almost as big as Texas is barreling down on you do you stay behind? So many people didn't heed the warnings to run, so glad Secret's owner is not one of those people. I mean, comeon. . it's not like a tornado that can appear above your head and go wham bam thankyou ma'am, they knew it was coming. Pack up those things that are very important to you(animals, kids, the computer and small things, like I couldn't leave Schatzi or Obie's ashes behind) and get the hell out of dodge. Better to leave and have nothing happen, than not to leave and lose everything including you or your families lives. You'd think EVERYONE would've learned from Katrina. I know I have. .if I'm ever in the path of a hurricane that could sink my house, I'll be OUT OF THERE.

We survived, LGRA & Agility

Well, Hanna's gone and blown herself out. . .it wasn't anywhere near as bad as was expected, heck, I had worse wind storms in NY. . .lots of rain, winds picked up here and there. . lots of torrential rains, but nothing too bad. Doesn't mean I wasn't glad we kenneled all the dogs for fear of trees coming down. . was nice not to have to worry about them, and made feeding them all so much easier.

Granted, as soon as Hanna was over with, we lost electricity LOL No flickers during the storm, only happened once she was gone. . figures. .told Bonnie that if we were going to be without power for 24 hrs again, I was DEFINITELY going racing.

Unfortunately a number of people didn't show up. . was looking forward to Wizard going head to head with Gossip now that he has his speed, and Orleans & Pia were signed up to come. . oh well, maybe next week. . I did get to see Gossip run against another dog I've been waiting to see: Serrano. Serrano is sired by Kazan, a nice running german bred male, sired by a son of Blaze, Kazan was a force to be reckoned with when he was younger, think he won the BCOA Nationals twice, as well as the LGRA nationals. .I'd wanted to run Gossip against him back in 2006, but that's when my life was in the toilet and the car was undependable. . anyway, Serrano's been running more focus on the plastic, and thus he's come back to LGRA to try it out.

He's grown up nicely, definitely shows his swedish part of the pedigree(short on leg long on body).

He didn't live up to his papa's speed, but he comported himself rather well. . .He'll get some more once he squeezes out of the box like Gossip & Grins do. He still breaks slower. ..but even his owner admitted he didn't have Gossip's speed. . .

I boxed Gossip & Grins the last race, and stepped back to watch. . it's amazing how they come out of the box, Grins came out 1-1 1/5 lengths ahead of Gossip, but she dropped it low to the ground and just set off the afterburners and each stride took her further and further away. It was awesome to watch. . .I usually catch as I can get both off without a problem, but it's so nice to watch them break from the box. Going to have to remember my camera this weekend and video it, it was just aweinspiring to watch her do it. Was like watching a Mustang and Lambergini take off, the Mustang getting off the line first, and the Lambergini dropping it a gear to take off around the other car LOL

Dei told me in no uncertain terms she's had enough of Racing, after running clean despite when other dogs were nasty in the last year, when another dog bumped into her (same dog mentioned above who wasn't running quite clean), she told him off. . oh well. . .she likes to race, in fact, lunged at the bunny yesterday when they bopped it, but oh well . .she can stay home. . next week is Tip or Kolya's turn. Sunday's looking to have a 16 Borzoi entry, wowza! Should be some nice running.

And Grins did well for a 6 yr old boy, coming in 2nd to only Gossip the entire meet for another 1.5 points towards his SGRC. .he's going to get his clock cleaned this coming weekend tho. . with Novel, Pia, Orleans & Wizard

While I was at the meet, was talking to a RR lady about agility, and this basenji person butts in. This woman is annoying, she thinks she knows everything, and it's her way or no way. She started telling me how I needed to train weaves. . told her what I was doing was working, and she kept going. .finally told her that she doesn't understand, training a Basenji to do weaves is TOTALLY different than training a Borzoi. She got indignant, told me she'd put Master Agility titles on dogs, she THINKS she knows what she's doing. Told her good for her, I respect that, but the fact a basenji doesn't have the problems Borzoi do doing weaves means that it's goign to take a different training strategy. Hell, by the time Gossip's tailbone gets to the 1st weave, her head has to be weaving thru the third. And she stomped off. .

This woman drives me nuts. She had a fit at one meet because someone's dogs were howling, and OMG, my dogs cant' run if someone's HOWLING! She also has to tell you hwo to do EVERYTHING. I was running the box at a meet earlier this year and as soon as she came up she started telling me how to do it. If she told me once she told me a dozen times in the 90 seconds before I put the dogs in the box, that i HAD to shake the lure for her old fart of a dog, as he got confused and needed to hear the sound to know which way to go. . .by the time I had them in the box, I as ready to throttle her, and I reached for the box mechanism before I realised it and before I could stop, she was protesting that I HAD to shake the bunny, I turned around and told her I knew that, but I couldn't THINK with all her damn yapping. The foul judge about fell out of his chair laughing, as he has the same opinion I do. . .GODS!!!!

Onto tormenting your borzoi LOLAfter Gossip's idiocy at Agilty class last week, with her refusing to do the tunnel, I set one up in the hallway to my bedroom. . so she has to do the tunnel to go to bed and to get up in the morning. .and now i have her jackalure on the lunge whip. . that'll make her do it even faster and I can rip it out from under her nose and make her come back thru LOL

July

I hate July

It's too damn hot to do anything
Too damn humid to move much

Granted, we don't get as hot as Vegas, but it's too damn hot for me. Watching the work on my computer last night had me sticky just standing there. . ick ick ick.

Could do dog shows, if ANYTHING I owned had coat, HAH! LOL Dei jumped up on a dog house in a puff of white hair this weekend

Started to Spray paint the contacts on the agility equipment last night, not going to be a quick job LOL Aframe has 42 inch contacts on both sides. glad I bought 3 cans of green. Was waiting for BOrzoi Bob and wife Sally to show up, he had a program to help my computer run faster. They requested a quick show, so Dei did everything but jumps & weaves for them. . .Silly hairless white girl. If I can get to bed at a decent time(We were up til 10:30 running the program on the computer, found 1600 little things in the registry that got deleted, wowza), I'll start working on it in the early A.M. when there is no humidity, only DUMB DEER! There's three sets of moms, and 6 babies(1-2-3, yes triplets) on the grounds, and they're not afraid of humans.

Had to take the Zoimobile in yesterday to get a tire patched, guy asked how old the tires were, that the tread was great, but the sidewalls were dryrotting. .I told him considering the car only had 35K on it in 11 yrs, I'd wager they were the original tires LOL. Get that done, and get it a checkup. Guess that's one reason to be glad July is a down month, LOL. . I have the money to do this.

Trying to figure out if I can travel this fall . .I would really like to pit Gossip against Sammy, but unless I can get another driver just no way in hades. .. I can't do that kind of driving on a Friday or Sunday night. . .other dog I want to see her against is way out West, but his owner told me last year he didn't think he was as fast as Gossip. IT'd still be nice to see in person. I'd also like her to run against Bartleby and a few others in his area. Would also like to run her against a few of Sally Barron's dogs. Quite a few of these dogs are way impossible due to distance :P Let alone the fact I don't want to do that to my little car. It's gotta last me a few years :) Wish Bonnie had more energy to do things more.
