Today was Umbra's day to shine. .well, three out of the four times he entered the ring this weekend he did.
Yesterday he won his veterans class under Carol Spritzer, especially sweet since her hubby finished him 3.5 yrs ago. . .A friend took him in for Breed, and it was so nice to see my boy move. . he wasn't sure of her, but moved nicely of him, only 2nd time someone other than Mom took him in.
Today he took Best Veteran under T Marshall(Chihawk Borzoi), and then went on to win his veterans class over a very hairy well known on the east coast boy under June Penta. . .unlike when he was in the classes, he now has decided showing means FUN and making a fool out of Mom LOL
Hopefully the picture turns out. . .
His newest cousins are on the way here. .got a call on the way home that two boys were here already, with at least 7 more puppies xrayed..yikes, glad they're not being born here LOL
Where quality not quantity matters
Where color is immaterial and gorgeous hounds fly.

week in review
This has quite literally, been the month from hell. .
Work has been busier than hell. . which is a good thing, albeit exhausting. .I get home and have no energy. Doesn't help the weather turned cold, and fast, no fall at all, just bam, bundle up weather.
Then get home, work with Gossip. . and this week it's been repaint PVBC's specialty signs. Not sure how old they are, but they looked horrendous. . I took the 5 worst ones and have been repainting and touching them up. They look 100% better all ready, but still need some real work, but that means taking them apart and making it easier to do so. . right now they're glued, but if we can get someone with a small drill bit, we could just screw the borzoi & shield and lettering in, and when somethign breaks, it makes it easier to replace them. ESPECIALLY when you can't find the same font as the rest of the letters are. Also makes it easier to paint in closed quarters, hard to repaint the middle of the O or the B without getting the letter blue or purple or gold. . will suggest it to the club, it'll definitely make it easier to keep them spiffy looking. . .
So, been busy, got home last night, put another coat of paint on, painted the Zoi as well as final painting of the backgrounds, and bathed and groomed two dogs, finish painting, take it over to Bob's. And get everything ready for an early AM departure. Sweeps at 9. . .Regular classes at 9:30, and OB at 11 . . goign to be tonight. . and probably sick on Monday, it is raining, so glad I'm not driving lOl Hope Carol Spritzer doesn't mind polka dots, cuz she's going to get an eyefull of Gossip's in the rain, OTOH, can't hide anything on a wet or naked dog. And then even more fun of doing OB in the rain. .will probably ahve to rewash Umbra for Sunday, OH JOY!!! Poor back.
Had a successful practice Last Sunday, even if we were fraught with equipment failures. . Bonnie just had both motors rebuilt, yet her motor wouldn't work, and something in mine(I can't spell it lOL) wouldn't kick in. Borzoi bob and Kathy's SO managed to put the two working bits together, worked for a bit, then that bit broke. Bonnie ran out and got another one, and we managed to get everyone thru once before the switch broke. .YARGH. . didn't get to run all the zoi we wanted to, but everyone who paid got a run.
First got a REALLY nice run, and allowed me to catch her easily, so she will be coming out with me this fall. Tip got to run, and also looked nice. Then we ran Kathy's Luthian with Reba to give Kathy confidence that Luthian'll ignore a well behaved dog running with her. Wanted to run Dei & Gossip, but will have to wait til next time.
I have to decide which FTE's I'm taking (Bagheera, First, Tip, Carrot, or Focus) next weekend LOL. Borrowing Bonnie's van so Idiot, err Eros can go, and I can work on re-box breaking his hairy butt. If Carrot & Focus are like their brother, they'll box break EASY. . .Bagheera's a moose, so that should be interesting LOL Hoping his 'Grandma' Comes, told her she could help me break him LOL Vickie hasn't seen him since he was knee high to a grasshopper, now he's knee high to an elephant and built like a tank, with a goofy sweet temperament
And counting down the days til I'll be home for xmas, warm & sunny Vegas. .

Thoughts
Kani's in season. . . And it's so tempting to breed her to Grins. She's never going to carry enough coat to show, since she's in season every 5.5-6 months, and goes down almost as naked as Kyra and only has good coat maybe 12 wks a year (6 wks at a time). She's young(3), she's probably more fertile than the other dogs we've been talking about breeding to him (all not due back in to next spring at least). The breedings we've had lined up either didn't happen or were cancelled. She's a lovely little girl, 27 inches tall, nice body, could use a prettier head(it's a Dutch head, not something I'm keen on on a bitch), lovely temperament, isn't as keen on running as I'd like to see her, but also haven't worked with her much. The times I've taken her, wasn't sure if she was running the squawker or running to me(tho Bob did say he thought she was chasing the squawker). What she doesn't have is confidence to do it(something Grins doesn't lack)
Thinking thinking thinking. . .

TGIF
Ever had a morning where it seemed like nothing was going right?
Forgot to set my alarm so I could get up early and put Gas in the Zoimobile. Since our move at work, it's a PITA to fight traffic to go into town to get Gas and the only gas station between here and work is usually 0.15 more than you can get elsewhere. . .well, didn't set that alarm earlier. Which also meant no time to fix breakfast, been trying to be good and fix breakfast to take to work. Usually fix two meals at a time, fry up some eggs and hashbrowns, or some pancakes, seems to hold off the munchies more if I don't eat til 9, vs at 6 am. . .but not this morning.
Then get out to the car, wtf are my keys? Not in my purse, not my work bag, get out, check the car, go in check my desk, check by the fish tank, I have been so good about putting my keys in the same place, but not this morning, panicked, ran up stairs, looked on the nightstand. . and then last place I thought to look, yesterday's clothes, yep, that's where they were. All the while, the cats are bitching cuz OMG, you did NOT give us a can of food this morning, how dare you. Meow meow meow. . spoiled rotten little sh*ts.
I hate mornings that start like this. . blech.
Work's been a bitch. . .feel like we've been on fast fwd for the last two weeks, partly because they don't trust the other three to do the new accounts, afraid they'll f*ck 'em up with the bouncing back and forth between systems, bane of being good at what you do and being intelligent. . .so, have a double work load. . .makes the day go fast, that's for sure. And with 5 flights of stairs to walk up each day (I hate elevators anyway LOL), makes for extra excercise. .but boy do your legs shake LOL. Oh lordie. PITA to get out of to go home tho, have to take the long way. . .but otherwise, enjoying it. .if only it was quieter. I like quiet around me, and you can only turn your IPOD up so loud before your ears hurt, and it still doesn't drown out customer service.
Looking forward to next weekend and abhorring the idea at the same time. Some days I work with G-Biscuit and think we can get that rally leg with NO problem, other days I want to hang her by her brindle ears. "Whatcha want me to do, Mom? Oooh, look butterflies. Sit? What's that mean? Oh is THIS what you want me to do?" Unfortunately there's just not a lot of rally run thrus around, but will do a drop in at class on Monday, and rent the room on Friday to refresh her brain, and then just go in, cross my fingers, and pray. She can do it, if she keeps her head on straight.
Thankfully the rings for OB & AB are not too far apart. . after sweeps will have to run over and let the ring steward know my predicament. Too bad they were only holding Rally the one day I entered gossip in the ring. . What I do to support my club. .at least if push comes to shove, I have two different people who can take Hairball AKA Umbra in the veterans ring for me, hell, he might move better for them than me now that he's having WAY too much fun in the ring.
And then the fun begins. . running every weekend next month. And nice entries if everyone shows up, including the possibility of 16 borzoi Thanksgiving weekend, wahoo! And two of the undefeated Borzoi in the country hope to come up and run head to head with Gossip. Shall be some really really nice running. Even have what's sounding like a nice entry the 1st weekend of November, despite the nationals being the same weekend. Most of the East coast can't/won't go, just not worth it, and too damn expensive. My iggy friend figured it out to be a $2000 trip if she went, with gas and hotel rooms, YIKES!!! And the NY event sounds like it's goign to have a nice entry too, granted after the last fiasco, don't count your eggs right? :)
Unfortunately, have decided after the pain I'm STILL in shoulderwise, that I won't be doing a long ride again, so won't be doign the SC event tho I had thought about it. Really wish they could figure out what's causing it.
And Brooks grandbabies are due next week. I can't wait

Camera woes
I broke my old Kodak last year, badly. . .dropped it one too many times, and it stopped working. Broke my heart, as it was a great camera, took some great photos with it, and some nice video. . .Kodak is a wonderful company IMHO, to work with too. . I'd bought another camera, only to ruin it when I didn't pack it right and it got wet. .we called Kodak and they said we could send it to them, and for one price, they would fix it if they could or replace it with the same camera, for a slightly higher price, they'd replace it with a better refurbished camera, and that's what we went with.
It lasted me a few years before it crapped out, and as I couldn't afford to replace it, my sis (Loving gal that she is) sent me her old camera when her hubby replaced it. It's not as good as the Kodak (it's a canon powershot sd100), but it did the job that I wanted. . only it's now given me issues. . .pictures coming out grainy. . .and no, haven't dropped this one, tried a new battery, didn't help. . .
Went on ebay, and looked around, and was able to find a Kodak for a really good price. only time'll tell if it works, but for the price, it was worth the risk. . .and I think it's the same one I had before, which makes it all the better.
Was playing with the old one today with the other battery to see if it was the battery giving me issues, and took these pics

I love old Borzoi ears. .some Borzoi people can't stand ears like this, but I love them. This is a 13+ yr old girlie who can still get around, still asks to go run in the yard, and is just a great sweet girl.
I can NOT believe my iris's are blooming!
Tomorrow going to plant the new ones I bought, winterize the garden, and yep, pick more tomatos off the plants that just won't stop !LOL
This is a Japanese tree called Polonia, this spring, this tree was less than a foot tall, now it's taller than the cottage by more than 5 ft. .the leaves are HUGE, it's like looking at one of those trees from back in the dinosaur age
Bought these lovely mums to put in the front flowergarden.A mum the same size last year became this huge one(The red is one plant)

WOW! :) I love my flowers
Weekend from hell
Or why Renee hates traveling
I am just not destined to travel out of my area for competition. . and last weekend prooves it.
First, LARK cancells its meets, after I worked to get coverage and was going to rent a car, and had everything all figured out.
So, asked around, and we were going to have an 8 Borzoi entry in RI. . cool, Gossip'd only ever ran against one of the dogs that was coming, and Orleans is a fast little tri, two of them were going to be Stardust kiddos, another girl I'd never seen before, and my kiddos. .so it was worth driving that long darn drive to run. . . Made Pandora's reservations at the vet(she needs thyroid meds, so to make sure she gets 'em, she goes to the Vet's, yep, having older animals makes life harder to do things like go away for the weekend)
Then Bonnie got me worrying about my little car. . it's 11 yrs old, it only had 39,700 miles on it, but she was like what if it breaks down, it's a long way, so not only did I not sleep Thursday worrying about that, the entire drive to Rhode Island, every noise had me wondering if it was my car, every strange smell had me wondering if it was my car(and when you go through Philly there's a lot of disgusting strange smells to be found LOL, none of which have anything to do with your vehicle) And I hate Philly anyway, it's a PITA to drive thru, because they can't DRIVE! I have yet to drive thru it and not get stuck in traffic.. . Just before I hit Newark, Rebecca called and said she was only going to come Sunday, as it'd been a bad few days at work and she hadn't been home much .. there goes two dogs. . .
Thankfully because Philly sucked so bad, didn't hit NYC until after rush hour, but still got stuck in traffic in CT due to construction. . .I hate the NE. . .finally got to the hotel at 11. . .and then couldn't sleep. . .LOVELY!!
JOhn told me Mr Wiz was housebroke, but I did not like the way he was eyeing the comforter, so I pulled out the vet wrap and he got a nice little belt lOL. . he wasn't happy. . .Gossip was, she got to snuggle in the huge bed, and laid there contentedly .she reminds me so much of her Uncle Obie sometimes, tho Wiz's personality showed this weekend and it was like I had Obie's shadow on my shoulder as i'm driving, cuz his little black head was there. he's such a good, sweet boy, he really is.
And even without having slept well the night before, being exhausted as can be when I checked in, couldn't sleep :P
So, get there Saturday, to find out Orleans had pulled, she was in season, Lucky wasn't coming, because Winnie was putting down her cat. . stuff like this doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but it's annoying when the fates do this to you when you drive this darn far LOL. Oh well, least I got to see Mr Snoopdog who I adore, and met some lovely people, and the weather was GORGEOUS!!!!
But a small meet means you work your butt. .we had 8 workers, two others showed up and help, which made a big difference, but still made it tough. And Grins decided to be a pistol, I could not get him off that bunny, he was channelling his Great grandfather well, his feet becoming clawed dragon paws as he wrapped them around the bunny and then yanked the bunny to his chest.. he may not one of the fastest dogs out there anymore, but he's definitely one of the damn keenest. I can usually pull three dogs off the bunny, it took two of us just to pull HIM off it. . I was ready to kill him LOL
A benefit of a small meet is you can learn to run the lure, which I've been slowly doing, running it for the smaller/slower breeds, but this weekend got to do that for the iggies, greyhounds, a Borzoi puppy(Kyra great grandson), and a couple of whippets, so it was a nice experience, and this lure machine was a nice one, very smooth running. .was great. It's also really really neat watching a new dog finally GET it. . beebop along, and then ZOOM
So, waiting for the last race of the day, and had to go potty, lol Not normally a problem, right? Unless you've got a chest rattling cough. .then it causes problems. Especially when the little girls room was a 5 min walk from the field. .told 'em I'd be right back, pulled the blankets off the car and threw them in the trunk, shut the trunk, and knew right then and there, the keys are in the trunk.
And there's no way to get in the trunk of this neon other than thru the trunk
F*CK! And of course, i'm 8 hrs from home, with no spare keys. . why no spare? NEVER done this before :P . (also never had a car you can't get in the damn trunk from anyway BUT the trunk before, duh)
Finished the races, packed up while we waited on AAA, THEY spent 30 mins unable to get in the car after 90 mins not being able to find us LOL. . .guy was incredulous. . what happens if a kid crawls in the trunk with the keys and shuts it? I said well, thankfully I keep the trunk so full of dog crap, no kid could fit in there LOL. . .finally 3+ hrs after the event ended, the lock smith showed up, and by the end of his time, he hated my car too, had a problem making the key. Gossip spent the time hunting squirrels
Good lord. . .that blew the budget. . .which I could've swallowed, if the entry hadn't tanked LOL. . .
Yep, gets better.
We go back to the hotel, Iggy John stays with the 10 iggies while us ladies go to this nummy local restaurant for dinner, and we all splurged and got steak, which was absolutely WONDERFUL. . was so damn exhausted, told them I knew I'd have no problem sleeping. .got back to my room, walked the four dogs, fed them, settled down in bed, and was wide awake. . could not sleep at all Saturday night either. . lovely
Gossip & Reba then decided to do the Borzoi Hat dance, including racing around and twirling in the hotel room. .finally got Reba up on the bed, and she was like wow, why haven't I found these before? LOL Finally fell asleep for a few hours, got up, and met Terri to follow her back to the field.
At which I get a call from Rebecca, 2 hrs away from home, 45 mins from the field, a tire blew out on her car and she was still waiting for AAA.
Making it just me and my guys again. Yep, an expensive weekend,. . .should've stayed home. . nah, it was a nice weekend, despite nasty cold rainy weather yesterday weather, with good people and good dogs, the borzoi races are getting more exciting, as Wizard is now really pushing Gossip. . .Grins isn't too far behind, but he's definitely not as fast as he once was. . .Gossip's having to work hard for her bunny. . .
so, nobody can't say i didn't try to go out of my area, LOL told Bonnie it just wasn't meant to be. . .instead, we're trying to build a big Borzoi entry for the VA meet, since so many of us can't afford to do the nationals this year :)
I am just not destined to travel out of my area for competition. . and last weekend prooves it.
